Decommission and recommission of your water cooler

During this time of uncertainty, we understand that you may have to leave your Water Cooler(s) or Hot Water Boiler(s) out of use for an unknown amount of time.

As your hydration provider, we wanted to advise the best possible way to decommission and recommission your equipment over this period. Please find below some quick steps that can be taken to do this safely . Plumbed-In Water Coolers:

  1. Short Term Shutdown (1 – 4 Weeks)

    • Turn off water supply
    • Leave machine switched on
    • Before resuming use, draw off all water
    • Turn water supply on and allow machine to refill
    • Draw off 5 litres from each tap to flush the system
    • Sanitise taps and dispense area with food-safe spray or wipes
  2. Managed Premises

If the premises are being monitored and there is a caretaker in regular attendance, the machine can be left with both the power and the water switched on. On a weekly basis draw off 5 litres of water from each tap on each machine to ensure a continuous fresh flow of water.

  1. Extended Shutdown (4 Weeks +)
  • Turn off both power and water
  • Draw off all the water from each tap until the machine is fully drained
  • Upon recommissioning, turn on both power and water and allow machine to fill
  • Draw off 5 litres of water from each tap to thoroughly flush the system.
  • Sanitise taps and dispense area with food-safe spray or wipes

Bottled Water Coolers

  1. Short Term Shutdown (1 – 4 Weeks)
  • Leave machine switched on
  • Before resuming use, draw off 3 litres from each tap to flush the system
  • Replace the 19L bottle if required
  • Sanitise taps and dispense area with food-safe spray or wipes
  • Check best before date on all bottles of water in stock
  1. Managed Premises

    If the premises are being monitored and there is a caretaker in regular attendance, the machine can be left in normal operation. On a weekly basis draw off 3 litres of water from each tap on each machine to ensure a continuous fresh flow of water.

  2. Extended Shutdown (4 Weeks +)

    • Turn off electrical supply.
    • Lifting vertically, firmly and carefully remove the 19L bottle from the machine and store upright ready for collection – Please do not reuse this bottle
    • Draw off any remaining water from each tap until the machine is fully drained
    • Upon recommissioning, install a new 19L water bottle and turn on the electrical supply. Allow machine to fill
    • Draw off 3 litres of water from each tap to thoroughly flush the system.
    • Sanitise taps and dispense area with food-safe spray or wipes
    • Check best before date on all bottles of water in stock

Hot Water Boilers

  1. Short Term Shutdown (1 – 4 Weeks)

    • Turn off both power (unplug) and water supply
    • Draw off all the water to tap level
    • Upon recommissioning, turn on both power (plug in) and water and allow machine to fill - wait approx. 30 mins. (5L boiler) and 60 mins. (10L boiler)
    • Draw off 5 litres of water to thoroughly flush the system.
    • Sanitise taps and dispense area with food-safe spray or wipes
  2. Managed Premises Please follow the shutdown guidelines.

  3. Extended Shutdown (4 Weeks +)

    • Turn off both power (unplug) and water supply
    • Draw off all the water to tap level
    • Upon recommissioning, turn on both power (plug in) and water and allow machine to fill - wait approx. 30 mins. (5L boiler) and 60 mins. (10L boiler)
    • Draw off 5 litres of water to thoroughly flush the system.
    • Sanitise taps and dispense area with food-safe spray or wipes
